Redcar MP Vera Baird QC and Friends of the Earth Director Tony Juniper
are inviting members of the public on a tour of the Black Path walk,
Teesdale Way, to hear about the historical impact of industry on
the surrounding communities and environment.
Along the way there will be mini presentations from industry
representatives, conservationists, and Redcar and Cleveland Borough
Council, focusing on the often controversial relationship between
industrial development and local environment – past, present
and future. Topics of discussion include:
• New challenges posed by climate change and their impact
on both industry and the environment
• How sustainable development and new clean, green technology
can benefit society and the environment
• The future of the Black Path walk
Redcar & Cleveland Council Leader Council George R. Dunning
said,
‘I am very pleased to support this event I have many happy
memories of cycling down the Black Path on my way to the Steel
Works but the Black Path also highlights a number of current issues,
that we will be debating, such as how are industrial processes
on Teesside responding to the challenges of climate change and
will this make a positive difference to our communities, our environment
and to the future of the Black Path.'
The walk takes place on Saturday 12th April at 11am, starting
at South Bank railway station. It will cover approximately 3.4
miles and end at the Corus roundabout, close to Steel House, in
Redcar.
After the walk transport will be provided to take people to a
local venue for a buffet lunch and the opportunity to discuss
and raise questions with Director of Friends of the Earth, Tony
Juniper.
